    The units you will cover include: Unit 201 Anatomy and physiology, 202 Principles of practice for beauty therapists, 203 Hair removal treatments, 204 Facial and skin analysis treatments, 205 Manicure services, 206 Pedicure services, 207 Light cured gel polish, 208 Lash and brow treatments, 209 Apply make-up, 211 Tanning treatments.

    Learners can progress onto either
    • Level 3 Beauty, Level 3 Hair and Media, Level 3 Complementary Therapies, Sports or L3 Nail Technology.
  • What do I need to join the course?

    Learners must demonstrate a commitment to learn and have the appropriate life skills.

    You will need
    • 16-18 year old at least 3 GCSE Grades of C and above including English language, Science, Mathematics or Level 2 Beauty retail technical certificate with related key skills/functional skills and a commitment to become a therapist.
    • References where necessary and appropriate.
    • You will need an excellent work ethic and commitment to high attendance of 95% and excellent punctuality standards.
    • You will need to be professional and discreet in all circumstances.
    • Good dexterity skills are paramount and this will be assessed with a skills test. You will need to enjoy working with other people and co-operate as part of a team.
    • You need to be committed and keen to practice as you learn new skills and be willing to work within a team and on clients within a real working environment. Entry is through a personal interview and via suitable references where necessary and appropriate.

    The course begins in September and finishes in June and lasts 36 weeks. Tuition and certification are free if you are aged 16-18 years old.
    An initial Assessment will be required prior to enrolment in order to determine Level of capability.

    The Beauty industry has an accepted dress code and all students will be expected to comply with these standards of dress when working in the Beauty Salon.

    No jewellery or acrylic nails are allowed by the exam board. Professional work wear will include a black tunic and full smart full-length black trousers and black full shoes. You will need to purchase the stationery/file kits, a make-up and beauty kit in order to carry out practical application and to build upon your skills.

    As part of your practical assessments, you will perform practical treatments on clients. Learners will be equally responsible for providing clients and they will incur a college fee, with discounted rates for friends and family.

    You will be required to carry out treatments on clients, this is an awarding body requirements.
    You will be expected to have a minimum of 95% attendance and all absences must be explained to your tutor with medical evidence if there is more than one week of absence.

    All learners will complete an individual learning plan which will be discussed with their tutor throughout the course.


    You may not have to pay tuition fees at all, if you fall into one of the groups eligible for fee exemptions. If you feel you may be eligible or would like someone to explain course fees in more detail, please call our helpline on 01204 482 000.

    Please note: Learners on a Learner Responsive course (shown under the course code) must bring their qualification certificates with them to enrolment. Learners will not be able to enrol without this information. If you have lost any certificates please contact your school in the first instance. If they are unable to provide a copy, you can contact one of the following exam boards (your school will be able to tell you which one you need):

    If you are unable to provide certificates you will be asked to complete a self declaration form when you enrol.
