  • Overview of the course

    Can you picture yourself on the stage and performing to an audience? If you are a creative and committed individual, who wants to have a taster into the performing arts then this one year foundation course maybe for you. The Edexcel BTEC Entry Level 3 Performing Arts have been developed to give you the opportunity to: engage in learning and to explore and develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance in working life. You will have the opportunity to try new skills in acting and dance and gain the experience of performing in at least 2 college shows in our state of the art theatre.
  • How will I be assessed?

    Your course tutors will set you practical assignments throughout the course and these will then be marked by that tutor. All course tutors will assess you on your performance work. There is an expectation that you keep a working log book for each unit that you study and this will be used as part of the assessment process
  • What can I expect to learn?

    You will study three units across the year. You will use these units to get an understanding of how the industry works and to put on a series of live shows.
    These units are:
    • Introduction to the Performing Arts
    • Starting to develop Performance Skills
    • Taking part in a performance
    As part of your programme of study you will also complete a certificate in Skills for Employment and further learning (Aim Awards). This qualification helps you to develop the confidence and communication skills needed to progress onto further learning or into employment.
    We encourage our students to continue their English & maths study to Level 3.

  • How can I progress after this course?

    After you have completed the course you could remain in College and progress on to Performing Arts BTEC Diploma Level 1.

    Following further study you could work as a:
    • Actor, entertainer or presenter and you could earn an average of around £34,000 per year depending on experience and role.
    • A Stage Manager, earning between £18,000 and £45,000 a year.
    • A Choreographer, with your salary dependent on experience, reputation and the production you’re working on.
    • A Lighting Technician, where you could earn up to £27,000 a year, depending on experience.

    Your main qualification will be part of a study programme that will include other opportunities to develop employability skills these include: Work Skills, Project and even an Arts Award qualification.
    Please note that it is a requirement of the course that you continue to develop your skills in maths and English as functional skills qualifications these subjects will form part of your programme of study.
    College Facilities:
    Our £70 million campus opened in 2010. It now boasts cafés and a coffee bar, salons, a fitness suite, a sports hall, ICT rooms, libraries, a theatre, a shop and loads of chill-out zones
    We have a professionally-equipped, studio theatre with state-of-the-art sound and lighting, including digital desks and 48 lighting channels on the rig and at stage level. This allows students to learn both production and performance skills.
    Our two dance studios are equipped with sound and video facilities and have sprung wooden floors, mirrors and ballet bars.
    We are developing links with local theatres in Bolton, Manchester and the North of England. With the opening of Media City in Salford, the opportunities to work with industry specialists has never been greater.

    All learners will complete an individual learning plan which will be discussed with their tutor throughout the course.


    You may not have to pay tuition fees at all, if you fall into one of the groups eligible for fee exemptions. If you feel you may be eligible or would like someone to explain course fees in more detail, please call our helpline on 01204 482 000.


    Tutors teach throughout the day and evening and are not always available by phone. Please leave a voicemail message where possible and we will ring you back as soon as possible.
    Please note: Learners on a Learner Responsive course (shown under the course code) must bring their qualification certificates with them to enrolment. Learners will not be able to enrol without this information. If you have lost any certificates please contact your school in the first instance. If they are unable to provide a copy, you can contact one of the following exam boards (your school will be able to tell you which one you need):

    If you are unable to provide certificates you will be asked to complete a self declaration form when you enrol.
