Ice cool creations stun college catwalk crowd

Bolton College’s talented beauty and hairdressing students embraced the spirit of Christmas on Friday, with a show-stopping competition dedicated to the theme of ice.

Over 30 learners, studying Make-up Artistry Level 2 and Hair & Media Make-up Level 3, worked throughout the day to transform their models into ice queens, turning Bolton College into a winter wonderland.

Modelling the styles were fellow learners, friends and family who received far from a frosty reception when they took a turn on the catwalk to showcase their glacial style to an enthusiastic audience of fellow students and tutors.

The learners had prepared for the competition by creating a digital and 3D mood board on the ice theme. Judging the competition were an impartial team of beauty and hairdressing tutors who marked the competitors under four categories – Hair, Make-up, Costume and Creativity.

Winner for Make-up Artistry Level 2 was Alisha Ashton, whose model Olga Bliss was adorned with snowflakes and icereminiscent of a crisp winter morning. Alisha walked away with a bag of Wella goodies for her efforts.

Emma Ainscough turned her model, daughter Beth Lomax, into an arctic unicorn, and was crowned winner of the Hair & Media Make-up Level 3 students. Emma said, “I was over the moon to win, I’ve been working on Beth all morning and I was really happy with result. I love taking part in these kind of events, it’s great to let my imagination run wild and with the current cold spell, the theme of ice was rather fitting!”

Ella Ramsbottoma Hairdressing Lecturer at Bolton College, helped to organise the event and said, “I’m quite new to the College so this was one of the first big events I’ve been involved in. I was dazzled by the students efforts and was particularly impressed with the talent of our learners. They all worked incredibly hard so it was lovely to see all of their efforts come to fruition. Competitions like this are a great opportunity to practise and show off the skills they’ve developed in class.
