    If you’re considering a career in the vibrant construction industry forecasts are strong for employment growth in the North West of England.
    If you’re wondering about which construction trade or pathway to follow, this programme may just be what you’re looking for.
    Taught by industry-experienced tutors in spacious, state-of-the-art workshops, the programme will help you decide which construction pathway to specialise in.
    The programme has been designed to cover the basic skills and techniques associated with plastering, bricklaying, carpentry & joinery and plumbing.
    You’ll get the opportunity to sample three weeks in each trade area to help you make an informed choice about your future career in construction.
    This is the ideal course to sample and try all skills helping you to choose your preferred trade/skill to progress to.
  • What you'll learn

    • Basic plastering, including preparing background surfaces, applying render and finishing coats.
    • Basic bricklaying, including constructing half brick walls, and building corners.
    • Basic carpentry and joinery, including marking out to form halving, Mortice and Tenon and Housing joints.
    • Basic plumbing techniques. working with various pipe and fittings and associated hand and power tools. The course will cover basic jointing exercises and the installation of basic cold water tap.

  • Entry requirements

    You should be able to demonstrate enthusiasm and dedication for a career in the construction industry. You need to be motivated, punctual and committed to attend all the sessions. You will possess a good level of English and maths but this is not essential.
  • How will I be assessed?

    Assessment will be undertaken by the completion of various practical tasks which will be linked to the vocational area in which you are studying. Your tutor will assess your work and provide feedback on the aspects you do really well and also areas which you may need to improve on
  • Is there anything else I need to know?

    Safety is paramount and thus all learners who enrol on the course must wear safety footwear whilst undertaking all practical activities. Tools, materials and equipment will be provided by the college

    On successful completion of this course you should be in a far better and more informed position to choose your next steps. You may have really enjoyed one of the four vocational pathways and choose to pursue this on a Level 1 course.

    You could then progress to an Adult Apprenticeship, onto full-time employment or simply confidently undertake a task at home with your newly acquired skills.

    Coronavirus Update


    In response to the COVID-19 situation we have made a number of changes to our traditional admissions and enrolment processes.
    Most conditional offers and enrolments are currently being processed based on the information available to us at the time of a telephone interview and/or online enrolment.
    Once a course starts and we are able to meet with learners in person we may need to alter the class an individual attends if they do not meet the course entry requirements. We will keep learners informed of any decision to alter their class and support them through any changes necessary.

    Assessment


    All learners will complete an individual learning plan which will be discussed with their tutor throughout the course.

    Financial


    You may not have to pay tuition fees at all, if you fall into one of the groups eligible for fee exemptions. If you feel you may be eligible or would like someone to explain course fees in more detail, pleasecontact us via our Live Chat service available on any page of our website.

    Adult Learners


    Adult learners (19+) must provide evidence of their existing qualification at enrolment. Learners may not be able to enrol if this information is not provided when requested. If you have lost any certificates please contact your school in the first instance. If they are unable to provide a copy, you can contact one of the following exam boards (your school will be able to tell you which one applies to the exams you took):

    Studying at College


    The health and safety of our learners and staff is still very important to us and so there may continue to be an element of study outside of the classroom during the 2021/22 academic year. The proportion of these hours will depend on the individual qualification(s) being undertaken. You must do the work set during these times or it will impact your progress on the course and therefore your achievement.
