    If you are looking for an exciting career within the world of hair and make-up artistry then this is the course for you.

    This one year course will provide you with the knowledge and skills required to become a junior hair and media make-up artist. This course will help to develop your creativity and flair in readiness for your first step into your career in this exciting and competitive industry.

    You will be taught by highly qualified and enthusiastic tutors, based in our state-of-the-art hair and beauty salons at our Deane Road campus.
  • What you'll learn

    The course consists of practical and theory. You will study a range of exciting units which include:

    - The art of applying make-up
    - Creative make-up artistry
    - Principles of researching, developing and showcasing designs
    - Anatomy and physiology for make-up artists
    - Hair artistry
    - Principles of working in the make-up industry
  • Entry requirements

    You will be assessed via an external practical assessment and a theoretical exam which will draw knowledge from the content of the qualification. The practical exam could be up to 6 hours in length with the theoretical exam content using short and extended answer questions. You will also be expected to undertake research for work to be completed in class.
  • How will I be assessed?

    Three GCSE’s at grade 4 (C) or above - one in English and one preferably in maths or an art-related subject, although this will be discussed at interview.

    You will need to provide evidence of a positive record of achievement/progress file, good attendance and punctuality. Entry is through a successful personal interview.

    You will have a creative flair and possess good dexterity skills, these will be assessed during a skills test. You will be a person who enjoys working with other people and participating as part of a team. A strong sense of commitment and a willingness to practice as you learn new skills are essential.
  • Is there anything else I need to know?

    This course could lead to a career in the media and entertainment industry as a make up artist and / or hair stylist. You will need to have a creative flair with good dexterity skills. As part of the course you will attend group and individual tutorials. There will be external trips and competitions that you will attend as part of this course. Visits and work placements will also be key components of this course.
    Course materials are essential for this course, therefore you will be required to purchase a uniform and kit.

    After completing the course you could choose to continue your studies at Bolton College and progress onto:

    - Make-up Artistry Diploma Level 3
    - Hairdressing Level 2
    - Barbering Level 2
    - Beauty Therapy or Holistic Therapy Level 2.

    Alternatively, you could choose to seek employment within the cosmetics retailing industry or you could consider an Apprenticeship.

    Assessment


    All learners will complete an individual learning plan which will be discussed with their tutor throughout the course.

    Financial


    You may not have to pay tuition fees at all, if you fall into one of the groups eligible for fee exemptions. If you feel you may be eligible or would like someone to explain course fees in more detail, please call our helpline on 01204 482 000.

    Adult Learners


    Adult learners (19+) must bring their qualification certificates with them to enrolment. Learners will not be able to enrol without this information. If you have lost any certificates please contact your school in the first instance. If they are unable to provide a copy, you can contact one of the following exam boards (your school will be able to tell you which one you need):
    If you are unable to provide certificates you will be asked to complete a self declaration form when you enrol.
