Pre-Level 3 Sign Language: Signature

  • Overview of the course

    This is a 2 year course for those who wish to gain the Signature level 3 certificate. This first year is to prepare learners for the requirements of the level 3 qualification.
  • What you'll learn

    Learners will be taught about Sign Language linguistics, Deaf history, education, culture, leisure, employment, sport and home life. Learners will be taught in sign language and will be given receptive and productive (informal) assignments in order to practice and build their skills using the knowledge they have gained and to develop their confidence using sign language in different situations. In addition to the formal classroom teaching, learners will be encouraged to socialise with different sign language users to broaden their receptive and signing skills.
  • Entry requirements

    Learners will need to have a pass certificate from a Signature level 2 course or ABC level 3 course and a college assessment.
  • How will I be assessed?

    Assessment during the preparation year will be through a variety of assessment methods, successful completion of this year on the course will enable learners to progress to the accredited course which will be assessed via exams.

    Coronavirus Update

    In response to the COVID-19 situation we have made a number of changes to our traditional admissions and enrolment processes.
    Most conditional offers and enrolments are currently being processed based on the information available to us at the time of a telephone interview and/or online enrolment.
    Once a course starts and we are able to meet with learners in person we may need to alter the class an individual attends if they do not meet the course entry requirements. We will keep learners informed of any decision to alter their class and support them through any changes necessary.

    All learners will complete an individual learning plan which will be discussed with their tutor throughout the course.


    You may not have to pay tuition fees at all, if you fall into one of the groups eligible for fee exemptions. If you feel you may be eligible or would like someone to explain course fees in more detail, pleasecontact us via our Live Chat service available on any page of our website.

    Adult Learners

    Adult learners (19+) must provide evidence of their existing qualification at enrolment. Learners may not be able to enrol if this information is not provided when requested. If you have lost any certificates please contact your school in the first instance. If they are unable to provide a copy, you can contact one of the following exam boards (your school will be able to tell you which one applies to the exams you took):
