Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools Certificate Level 2

  • Overview of the course

    This course is an accredited course aimed at those who are new to supporting in schools or may have experience and wish to gain a qualification. The course will enable learners to develop the knowledge and skills needed when supporting teaching and learning in the school environment.
  • What you'll learn

    This course incorporates mandatory units on: child and young person development, safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people.

    You will also get the opportunity to study modules which are of particular interest to you or support your chosen career path.
  • Entry requirements

    GCSE Grade A*-C 9-4 or English Language or equivalent. However, if you do not already have this you may still be able to join the course but you must sit a diagnostic test to demonstrate you are working at Level Two.

    You will need to secure a placement within a school (not a Nursery setting) which enables you to complete work experience (paid or voluntary). You will need basic IT knowledge as all work is assessed online.
  • How will I be assessed?

    All units are internally assessed. Methods of assessment may include: witness statements, reflective accounts, displays, leaflets, working online.
  • Is there anything else I need to know?

    You will need to attend an Information Event and undertake a short, basic written assessment. Once you have attended an event and completed an application form, we will invite you to book a telephone interview.

    In order to gain employment as a Teaching Assistant you must have a GCSE grade A*-C 9-4 English Language or equivalent. If you need to study a GCSE alongside this course we can help you with that.

    Successful completion of the Level Two course will enable you to apply for the Level Three Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools.

    Please note that this qualification also enables you to work as a qualified Teaching Assistant in a school setting (if you have a GCSE grade A*-C 9-4 English Language or equivalent).

    All learners will complete an individual learning plan which will be discussed with their tutor throughout the course.


    You may not have to pay tuition fees at all, if you fall into one of the groups eligible for fee exemptions. If you feel you may be eligible or would like someone to explain course fees in more detail, please call our helpline on 01204 482 000.

    Adult Learners

    Adult learners (19+) must bring their qualification certificates with them to enrolment. Learners will not be able to enrol without this information. If you have lost any certificates please contact your school in the first instance. If they are unable to provide a copy, you can contact one of the following exam boards (your school will be able to tell you which one you need):
    If you are unable to provide certificates you will be asked to complete a self declaration form when you enrol.
