    This course is for people looking to obtain a qualification in training and is appropriate for those delivering work-based training within voluntary, community, private and public organisations. You do not need any previous teaching experience to start this course.

    Please note: This course does not qualify you to be a teacher and is not appropriate for those who wish to teach in a Primary or Secondary school . Please take a look at our PGCE/Cert Ed 14+ courses if you are interested in becoming a teacher within the Further Education sector.
  • What you'll learn

    You will learn the basics of teaching and learning which will enable you to plan and deliver trainings sessions, carry out assessments and understand the wider context in which teaching and learning operates. During this course you will study the following key elements of training:
    • Understand appropriate teaching and learning approaches
    • Demonstrate session planning skills
    • Understand how to deliver inclusive sessions which motivate learners
    • Understand the use of different assessment methods and the need for record keeping
  • Entry requirements

    You must hold a Level 3 qualification. You will also need Maths and English at Level 2 or GCSE (A-C).
  • How will I be assessed?

    Assessment is by written assignments and a ‘micro-teach’. This is a short teaching session delivered to the rest of the group at the end of the course. In addition to the taught sessions you will be expected to undertake research and write assignments.

    On successful completion you may want to consider progressing to the Level 4 Award in Education and Training or to pursue a full teaching qualification such as PGCE/Cert Ed 14+. Previous learners have gone on to work within private training providers and charities, such as Fort Alice, as well as establishing their own training companies.

    All learners will complete an individual learning plan which will be discussed with their tutor throughout the course.


    You may not have to pay tuition fees at all, if you fall into one of the groups eligible for fee exemptions. If you feel you may be eligible or would like someone to explain course fees in more detail, please call our helpline on 01204 482 000.

    Adult Learners

    Adult learners (19+) must bring their qualification certificates with them to enrolment. Learners will not be able to enrol without this information. If you have lost any certificates please contact your school in the first instance. If they are unable to provide a copy, you can contact one of the following exam boards (your school will be able to tell you which one you need):
    If you are unable to provide certificates you will be asked to complete a self declaration form when you enrol.
