Overview of the course
This programme has been designed to introduce you to the creative sector, enabling you to make informed future progression choices while developing and applying your knowledge and acquiring a range of relevant practical, communication and personal development skills.
This qualification is suitable if you have an interest in art, design, media or a related subject and wish to explore and extend this interest via a full-time, immersive learning experience.
What you'll learn
The content of the programme was developed with representatives from universities, further education colleges and employers to ensure that it provides you with the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to progress to the next level of education and training.

• Visual & Contextual Studies
You will undertake several projects and learn to work creatively to a client’s brief.
If required for your chosen HE course, you may wish to study English & maths to Level 3.
You don’t need any formal qualifications, but a passion for all aspects of art, design and media is a must. We will ask to see a portfolio of your art/design work and invite you to an informal interview.
How will I be assessed?
Students are assessed via a ‘Final Major Project’ which takes place at the end of the course when they are at their best. This large project allows students to demonstrate all the learning that has taken place through completion of the other units. This unit is graded Pass, Merit or Distinction and determines the overall qualification grade.

After you have completed the course you could remain in College and progress on to the Art & Design Diploma Level 2 or an alternative provision.

Following a career path in the art, design and digital media industry, you could choose to work as:
• An Artist, earning up to £28,000 a year, depending on experience
• Professional Photographer, earning up to £30,000 on average
• A Jewellery Designer, earning between £15,000 and£50,000 a year depending on experience

As part of our Pre-Professionals Programme, you’ll have your own personal Learning Development Mentor and Careers Coach. They’ll help you to manage your studies, oversee your progress and aid in your personal development.

The Anderton Outdoor Activity Centre is now part of the University Of Bolton Group and students can undertake a range of activities including kayaking, canoeing, archery and much more; if you work hard, there's a good chance you could enjoy these activities too.
