    Our full-time study programmes are designed to maximise your career prospects and widen your options for further or higher study.

    This course has been designed to introduce you to the world of business. You will study pathways including Business Administration, Business Enterprise and Working Effectively in Business.

    As part of the programme you will investigate business practices and create business ideas, alongside developing essential business and administrative skills. You will continue to study essential Maths and English as well as employability skills.

    Work experience is an integral part of our study programmes, enabling you to gain essential exposure to the world of work.
  • What can I expect to learn?

    You will study a range of business units including:
    • Presenting a Business Idea
    • Branding a Product
    • Creating a Visual Display
    • Organising a Meeting
    • Communicating with Customers
    • Personal Professional Development

    The course will be delivered by experienced tutors from the world of business. As well as classroom teaching, you will get to investigate local and national businesses, including guest speakers from these businesses and visits to their place of work. You will participate in regional and national enterprise competitions and will be given the opportunity to complete work experience. You will also attend industry related work experience.

    Elements of study

    Your programme consists of the following elements:
    • Study of your chosen vocational subject (50% of your programme)
    • English and maths (continued until the achievement of GCSE grade 4 (C) or equivalent)
    • Employability skills (e.g. punctuality, attendance, communication and team work)
    • Work experience (giving you a taste of working life)
    • Tutorial & personal development (e.g. healthy living, volunteering and citizenship skills)
  • How will I be assessed?

    For each unit, you will complete a number of assignments and activities. These will include a mixture of:
    • Presentations
    • Observations
    • Written reports
    • Professional discussions
    • Group assessments
    • Practical activities
    • Role Plays
  • How can I progress after this course?

    You may choose to continue your studies and complete your Business BTEC Diploma Level 2.

    Alternatively, if you choose to look for paid work you could opt for a Business Apprenticeship and work as an apprentice Administrator.

    Following further study you could work as:
    • An Accounts Clerk where you can earn between £16,000 and £22,000 a year, depending on experience.
    • An Administrative Assistant and earn between £14,000 and £22,000 a year, depending on experience.
    • A HR Officer, earns an average of £30,000 a year
  • What do I need to join the course?

    Ideally you will have a GCSE profile of mainly 3-1 (D-G) grades, including Math and English and a reference from your previous school or college.

    You need to be motivated to learn and have good attendance and punctuality.

    The College will support you throughout your time here; you will receive personal support from both your tutor and your Learning & Development Mentor. Support is also available from our dedicated Student Services team for personal, financial and careers guidance.

    During their last inspection, Ofsted commended the College for its provision of “well targeted information, advice and careers guidance, which meets individual needs and enables learners to make informed choices about the next steps in their learning and career”.


    We want to give you a positive experience at College and a rounded view of the industry you could one day be working in. So, during your time at College, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a range of activities, including:

    Ofsted Grade 2 ‘Good’

    On our last inspection we were graded 2 for ‘Good’. Ofsted highlighted the fact that our learners develop good employability and personal skills and that a high proportion progress to Apprenticeships, employment or Higher Education.

    All learners will complete an individual learning plan which will be discussed with their tutor throughout the course.


    You may not have to pay tuition fees at all, if you fall into one of the groups eligible for fee exemptions. If you feel you may be eligible or would like someone to explain course fees in more detail, please call our helpline on 01204 482 000.


    Tutors teach throughout the day and evening and are not always available by phone. Please leave a voicemail message where possible and we will ring you back as soon as possible.
    Please note: Learners on a Learner Responsive course (shown under the course code) must bring their qualification certificates with them to enrolment. Learners will not be able to enrol without this information. If you have lost any certificates please contact your school in the first instance. If they are unable to provide a copy, you can contact one of the following exam boards (your school will be able to tell you which one you need):
