    Overview of the course
    This 2 year course is delivered full time to learners. This leads to a nationally recognised qualification that prepares learners to work with children between birth and 5 years, with knowledge of children up to age 7 years.
    The course requires regular attendance in both college and placement in order to complete.
  • How will I be assessed?

    All units are assessed using a range of methods. This includes direct observation within the workplace by an experienced assessor, production of a portfolio of evidence and the completion of written assignments, graded A* - D . There is also work that is externally marked outside of college.
    Placement requirements: a total of 750 recorded hours over a set range of age ranges from 0 – 7 years.
  • What can I expect to learn?

    The course covers a range of units including: Child development from conception to seven years, Child health, Play and learning, Understanding children’s additional needs, Supporting emergent literacy and mathematics and Preparing for school readiness.

  • How can I progress after this course?

    On successful completion of this course you will be qualified for employment within the Early Years sector, or you may progress on to the Foundation Degree (Early Years Childhood Studies) or other relevant university degrees including Early Years teaching. After 2 years post qualifying experience you may also wish to move on to the Healthcare Play Specialist (Level 4/5)
  • What do I need to join the course?

    Applicants must have 5 GCSEs at C grade or above, including Maths and English. They also require some experience of working with children in a group situation, or they may have already successfully completed a Level 2 childcare course. As part of the application process there will be an informal interview during which a real desire to work with children must be shown, as well as completing a short written assessment.

    Assessment


    All learners will complete an individual learning plan which will be discussed with their tutor throughout the course.

    Financial


    You may not have to pay tuition fees at all, if you fall into one of the groups eligible for fee exemptions. If you feel you may be eligible or would like someone to explain course fees in more detail, please call our helpline on 01204 482 000.

Learners will not be able to enrol without this information. If you have lost any certificates please contact your school in the first instance.
