    Skilled motor vehicle experts are always in high demand and taking one of our motor vehicle courses could be your first step into this industry.

    Learning in our £4.3 million STEM Centre with industry- standard equipment and high-spec diagnostic
    tools, you could soon find yourself moving into employment in breakdown services, MOT testing or
    even renovating classic cars.

    Work experience is also an integral part of our study programmes, enabling you to gain essential exposure to the world of work.
  • What you'll learn

    Your course will cover a variety of different units – Body
    and Paint – which may include:
    • Vehicle Materials
    • Structures & Technical Information
    • Knowledge of Materials, Fabrication, Tools &
    Measuring Devices used in the Automotive Industry
    • Vehicle Body Repair Materials
    • Basic Vehicle Preparation
    • Moving Loads & Vehicle Jacking
    • Skills in Removing & Fitting Non-Permanently Fixed
    Motor Vehicle Body Panels

    You will have the opportunity to complete work experience during the course. Many of our learners
    are offered a permanent position at the end of their placement, and around 15 of this year’s learners gained
    some kind of employment through exposure to the industry.

    If required for your chosen career or HE course, you may wish to study English & maths to Level 3.

    Elements of Study
    Your programme consists of the following elements:
    • Study of your chosen vocational subject (50% of your
    programme)
    • English and maths (continued until the achievement of GCSE grade 4 (C) or equivalent)
    • Employability skills (e.g. punctuality, attendance, communication and team work)
    • Work experience (giving you a taste of working life)
    • Tutorial & personal development (e.g. healthy living, volunteering and citizenship skills).
  • Entry requirements

    There are no formal entry requirements for this course, but an interest or some experience of working with cars and manual industry-standard tools would be an advantage.
  • How will I be assessed?

    The course is assessed using a mix of practical assessments, job reports and online examinations. It is approximately 50% practical and 50% theory-based.

  • Future opportunities

    After you have completed the course you could remain in College and progress on to a Diploma in Accident Repair and Refinish Level 2.

    Alternatively, if you choose to look for paid work you could opt for a Motor Vehicle Apprenticeship and work as a Motor Vehicle Apprentice.

    Following further study you could work as:
    • A Motor Vehicle Technician where you could earn between £15,000 and £20,000 a year, depending on experience.
    • A Vehicle Body Repairer, earning an average wage of around £26,000 per year.
    • A Mechanic, earning between £18,000 and £35,000 a year.
