    Our full-time study programmes are designed to maximise your career prospects and widen your options for further or higher study.

    Can you picture yourself on the stage, the screen or even behind the camera? If you are a creative and ambitious individual, our performing arts courses will help you to break into this competitive industry.

    During this one-year course, you’ll have the opportunity to work towards the Level 3 90 Credit Diploma in stages that will build and develop your skills.

    Work experience is an integral part of our study programmes, enabling you to gain essential exposure to the world of work. All the practical work will be leading towards public performance either in the College theatre or other venues around Bolton.
  • What you'll learn

    You will study a further four units at Level 3 during this year:
    • Developing Performance and Production Skills
    • Preparing for Progression
    • Exploration of Specialist Study
    • Extended Project (Full-scale production)

    You will also select a preferred performance pathway to specialise in. You will choose either:
    Acting Pathway
    • Improvisation
    • Voice/Movement classes
    • Acting Styles
    • Classical/Contemporary theatre
    • Masks and Comedy
    • Acting for Camera

    Dance and Acting Pathway
    • Jazz Dance
    • Contemporary Dance
    • Urban Dance
    • Dance and Drama
    • Physical Theatre
    • Choreographing Dance
    • Musical Theatre

    If you would like to specialise in backstage work, you will be given relevant training and the opportunity to work on a range of shows. As an experienced student, you will take a lead role in all projects and will be given opportunities to direct or choreograph work.

    You will work on a full-scale production towards the end of the year, which may include a contemporary theatre production, dance show or musical theatre production.

    Other projects throughout the year include, theatre for children, schools tour, TV and film project, site-specific project, directing and choreography projects.

    You may direct or choreograph your own performance work, working with your peers. You may also develop your own performance work for camera, producing a short film. You will work alongside industry professionals on external performance projects in order to provide valuable experience of working in the Performing Arts industry.

    You will be given the opportunity to audition for our theatre and dance companies. These companies are run outside of class time and provide students with a range of performance opportunities and further training.

    You will need to have completed a one-year Diploma Level 3 (UAL or BTEC) with a Merit or Distinction Profile.
  • How will I be assessed?

    There’ll be continuous assessment throughout the course. You’ll be assessed on your practical work in class, public performances and your written log books.

    Following further study you could work as a:
    • Actor, Entertainer or Presenter and you could earn an average of around £34,000 per year depending on experience and role.
    • A Stage Manager, earning between £18,000 and £45,000 a year.
    • A Choreographer, with your salary dependent on experience, reputation and the production you’re working on.
    • A Lighting Technician, where you could earn up to £27,000 a year, depending on experience.
