Eira Heywood, one of Bolton College’s support workers, was delighted to receive an invitation to the Coronation of King Charles.

This invitation was not only a personal achievement for Eira but also recognition of the incredible work she and her late husband, Graham, had done for the charity they founded, Bolton Adult Autism Support (BAAS), which supports families impacted by autism.

Eira and Graham were both awarded British Empire Medals for their work with the charity. Sadly, Graham passed away earlier this year, so Eira viewed the invitation as recognition for both of them.

Despite being saddened that Graham was not here to share the moment with her, Eira felt privileged to receive the invitation and said: "It was recognition for both of us, and Graham would have been so pleased to receive an invitation to such an important occasion. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to attend the Coronation due to family commitments but I was so happy to be invited.”

BAAS has won numerous awards, including The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service and they are always on the lookout for volunteers to help make a difference in the lives of autistic adults and their families.

For just two hours a week, volunteers contribute their time and effort to alleviate loneliness, build confidence and improve the mental health of autistic adults and their families.
