Bolton College's 2019 Creative Showcase

21 May 2019

21.05.19 Creative Showcase 2

Bolton College’s hairdressing, barbering, beauty, visual arts and performing arts students have delivered a spectacular Creative Showcase.

Over 100 learners showcased their work to fellow students, tutors, members of the public and special guests, including the Mayor of Bolton, Councillor Elaine Sherrington, and Bolton FM presenter Tony Bridge.

Hairdressing and Beauty students worked throughout the morning to transform their models, inspired by the themes of ‘mystique’ and ‘circus’. Learners prepared for the competition by creating a digital and 3D mood board with their take on the theme.

Hairdressing models took to the catwalk first, swiftly followed by Beauty. A competitive edge was in place for beauty students, with first, second and third places awarded for best transformation. Razan Hejazi, Dolly Buchanan, Dawia Hivadost and Megan Waring were crowned winners of their categories and each received a goody bag of beauty products.

After the catwalk, the College’s Performing Arts students entertained guests with songs and dance, whilst Catering students served up fish goujons, spring rolls and samosas.

Following the catwalk and performances, guests perused a visual arts exhibition, showcasing pieces submitted by both adult and young learners. Papier-mâché totem animals, graffiti art, digital photography and prints dedicated to the theme of urban were just some of the pieces on display.

Bill Webster, Bolton College Principal, said: “Our annual showcase is the perfect platform for our students to exhibit their talents and wonderful work. It gives them the opportunity to practise and show off the skills they’ve developed in class, and gives our learners a chance to shine. As always, I was so impressed with the students’ efforts and it was particularly warming to see the support and appreciation they received from fellow learners, tutors and members of the public.”

Sharon Ainsworth, from Horwich, was just one of the members of the public visiting the Showcase. She said: “I saw the event advertised on Facebook, and I’m so pleased I came down to see it. I’ve been thinking of starting a course at College for a while now, so being here has given me a good feel for the College and really inspired me. I loved the hair models, they were out of this world, but I was also really impressed with the digital photography exhibition, so I might just choose courses in both!”
