Thirteen learners, studying Make-up Artistry Level 3, had three hours to transform their models into Christmas icons of the silver screen.
Judging the competition were an impartial team of beauty and hairdressing tutors who marked the competitors under four categories – Hair, Make-up, Costume and Creativity.
Prior to the makeovers, the students had each created a digital or 3D mood board on the Christmas movie theme, which they used for inspiration throughout the process.
Jemma Simpson was crowned winner after transforming her model into Greta from Gremlins 2. Jemma walked away with a £75 voucher and a make-up palette for her efforts.
Second place went to Ellie Yates, who turned her model into Edward Scissorhands and received a £50 voucher and make-up palette.
Third place was awarded to Paula Hopwood, thanks to making over her model into an Ice Queen.
Jemma said: “I was really pleased to win. I love taking part in these kind of competitions, it’s great to let my imagination run wild and really go for it!”
Bolton College, which is part of the University of Bolton Group, regularly holds competitions for its students, allowing them to showcase their skills.
Shane Lillycrop, a Hair & Beauty Lecturer at the College, organised the event and said: “I was so impressed with the students’ efforts. They all worked incredibly hard and put a lot of thought into their makeovers.
“It was really difficult for the judges to choose a winner, as the quality was so high but we were all really impressed with Jemma’s makeover.
“Not only was this an excellent opportunity for our students to practise and show off the skills they’ve developed in class, it will also a great way to kick start Christmas”.
