Criminology, Psychology and Social Sciences - Find Out About

This course is aimed at students who have no or little knowledge or understanding of these subjects but are curious and want to now what they involve.
Whilst on the course you will develop an overview and introductory understanding of the social sciences and how they attempt to explain the communities and society we all live in.

Under the umbrella term of Social Sciences, you'll have a brief look at some of the topics that are covered within Criminology and Psychology and how study of these subjects can lead to some exciting and interesting careers. Here's a few examples of the sort of things we'd be looking at:
Why people commit crime, are criminals born or made bad?
Why are some individuals and groups discriminated against?
How does the memory work?
How does the education system help us succeed?

There are no formal qualifications needed for entry but you will need a sufficient level of literacy to complete your workbook and tasks.

You will agree an individual learning plan (ILP) with your tutor at the start of the course, identifying what you want to gain from the course. You will complete activities and tasks set by your tutor which will show the range of skills and knowledge you have gained while on the course. You will receive supportive feedback throughout the course and will track your own progress in your Individual Learning Plan.

You will need to be interested in developing your skills and knowledge alongside an enthusiasm for working with others and your tutor to enjoy finding out new things.

Level 1 studies in English/maths and Computer courses (Important preparation for study at level 2)
Level 2 GCSE English and maths (Important for study at level 3 and to gain employment)
Level 2 Certificate in Skills for further study in Humanities and Social Science (This will really help prepare you for study at level 3)
Level 3 Access to Higher Education Diploma (Pathways in Social Science, Social Work and Teaching/Education)

Assessment

All learners will complete an individual learning plan which will be discussed with their tutor throughout the course.

Financial

Adult Learners

Adult learners (19+) must provide evidence of their existing qualification at enrolment. Learners may not be able to enrol if this information is not provided when requested. If you have lost any certificates please contact your school in the first instance.
