Ceramics Workshop

  • Overview of the course

    Adult classes in Ceramics are flexible in their delivery and use of techniques. All processes in handling clay are covered. There are specific four week courses if students would like to refine a technique, for example throwing clay on the potter's wheel.
    Emphasis is on having fun and using clay to express your ideas. What you make is up to you, with the tutor guiding you on the techniques and practicalities of handling clay.

    Slab building, throwing, coiling, press moulding and slip casting can be tried out plus experimenting with colours and glazing.

    Adult ceramic courses are non accredited. Beginners, intermediate or advanced learners are welcome.
  • How will I be assessed?

    This course is for pleasure only and is not formally assessed. Your tutor will offer assistance to beginners and advice for those with more experience. Encouragement and informal feedback throughout the course of the tutor.
  • Is there anything else I need to know?

    Materials, tools and equipment are all provided. Aprons are also supplied.

    It is advised that you wear old clothes or an apron (or protective clothing to protect against clay dust as you may get messy). Due to health and safety, no open toed shoes are allowed in the ceramic workshops.

    The tutor will cover basic health and safety principles in the ceramic studio, necessary for handling clay, Fire and first aid precautions and necessary guidelines on keeping dust to a minimum.

    All learners will complete an individual learning plan which will be discussed with their tutor throughout the course.
