Ceramics Workshop

    This practical course is suitable for anyone who wishes to develop their enthusiasm for ceramics, whether you are a beginner or a more experienced learner. Run in our ceramic facilities this course will give you allocated time to produce your own creative designs using the medium of clay in a friendly atmosphere. You can bring ideas of your own or respond to a range of ceramic techniques that your tutor will teach you.

  • What you'll learn

    The ceramics workshop will enable you to develop your creative skills and a personal approach to your ceramic work.

    For beginners, the course will enable you to learn a range of skills and techniques including: how to prepare clay, using moulds (press moulding), pinching, slab building and coiling. As well as being introduced to decorative processes such as slip decoration, stencils, sgraffito, glazing and underglazing techniques.

    Alternatively, more advanced learners can receive support and any technical advice in order to refine their skills and knowledge. Work at your own pace and create your own artwork whether it is making larger and more complex forms or your own dinner set!

    There are no specific entry requirements, apart from enthusiasm to develop your skills and knowledge in ceramics.

  • How will I be assessed?

    This course is for pleasure only and is not formally assessed.

    Your tutor will offer assistance to beginners and advice for those with more experience. Encouragement and informal feedback throughout the course of the tutor.
  • Is there anything else I need to know?

    Materials, tools and equipment are all provided. Aprons are also supplied.

    It is advised that you wear old clothes or an apron (or protective clothing to protect against clay dust as you may get messy). Due to health and safety, no open toed shoes are allowed in the ceramic workshops.

    All learners will complete an individual learning plan which will be discussed with their tutor throughout the course.
