  • Overview of the course

    This course is for those students who want to develop independence and improve their cookery skills.
    Students will develop their independence using cookery skills by producing and preparing products, discussing, watching demonstrations, listening to instructions and evaluating a simple recipe each week. This course is a short introduction before joining the accredited Entry Level 3 Gateway Certificate in Developing Skills and Progression.
  • What you'll learn

    On this course you will develop and improve your cookery skills by:
    • Keeping the work area clean, tidy and safe in a kitchen environment
    • Identifying what products, you should use to keep the work area clean
    • Listing 4 ways to keep safe in a kitchen
    • Preparing and producing at least 4 different products
    • Understanding and following instructions for a simple recipe
    • Identifying kitchen equipment
    • Recognizing at least 4 ingredients
    • Evaluating your completed products
    • Identifying what went well
    • Stating one area for development / improvement.
  • Entry requirements

    Entry requirements for this course is an E3 Achievement on a previous accredited or non-accredited course. You need to attend all of your classes, have enthusiasm and show commitment.
  • How will I be assessed?

    You will agree an individual learning plan (ILP) with your tutor identifying what you want and need to gain from the course. You will build up a folder of work which shows the range of skills and knowledge you have developed. You will receive supportive feedback throughout the course and track your progress through your Individual Learning Plan.

    Coronavirus Update

    In response to the COVID-19 situation we have made a number of changes to our traditional admissions and enrolment processes.
    Most conditional offers and enrolments are currently being processed based on the information available to us at the time of a telephone interview and/or online enrolment.
    Once a course starts and we are able to meet with learners in person we may need to alter the class an individual attends if they do not meet the course entry requirements. We will keep learners informed of any decision to alter their class and support them through any changes necessary.

    All learners will complete an individual learning plan which will be discussed with their tutor throughout the course.


    You may not have to pay tuition fees at all, if you fall into one of the groups eligible for fee exemptions. If you feel you may be eligible or would like someone to explain course fees in more detail, pleasecontact us via our Live Chat service available on any page of our website.

    Adult Learners

    Adult learners (19+) must provide evidence of their existing qualification at enrolment. Learners may not be able to enrol if this information is not provided when requested. If you have lost any certificates please contact your school in the first instance. If they are unable to provide a copy, you can contact one of the following exam boards (your school will be able to tell you which one applies to the exams you took):
