Hairdressing Fast-Track VRQ Diploma Level 3

  • Overview of the course

    This Level 3 hairdressing course is delivered in our state-of-the-art Hairdressing Academy which includes five large air conditioned studios, all designed to provide realistic hairdressing working environments.
    This VRQ course is for those wishing to progress from Level 2 in hairdressing and looking to advance their skills. It can also be for those wishing to update/refresh their skills at a higher level.
    You will enjoy and participate in a varied teaching and training programme during this intensive course, enabling you to be at the level which the hairdressing industry requires from it's hairdressers. You will be taught specialist skills including up-to-date techniques in creative cutting, colouring, colour correction and business skills. Part of the course includes photographic, promotional and hair show activities.
  • What you'll learn

    You will be able to develop your creativity and independence as a stylist. You will study a wide range of hairdressing units and practise your skills in taught sessions and client-based practical sessions. Classes will be delivered by our highly trained, experienced and fully-qualified staff. Whilst studying and training you will experience and participate in a combination of demonstrations, seminars, lectures, tutorials and educational visits as well as 'in house' and external training by leading manufacturers from the hairdressing industry.

    The following units will give you the specialist skills which will enable you to progress in your career options.

    Mandatory units include:-

    Monitor and maintain health and safety practise in the salon
    Creative hairdressing design skills
    Perm hair to create a variety of looks
    Colour hair to create a variety of techniques
    Consultation support for colleagues on hair services
    Style and dress hair using a variety of techniques
    Cut women's hair to create a variety of looks

    Optional units include:

    Bridal hair styling
    Colour correction
    Contribute to the planning and implementation on promotional activities
    Display stock to promote sales in a salon

  • Entry requirements

    You will already have a Level 2 hairdressing qualification or other relevant experience in a salon. You will need to pass a successful interview, a skills test and provide a good reference. Creativity, self motivation, good communication skills and a strong commitment to achieve are keys to success at Level 3.
  • How will I be assessed?

    You will be assessed on a continual basis. Practical skills will be assessed on clients, friends and family in a realistic working environment, oral questioning is also used. Theory assessments consist of online testing, assignments and portfolio work.
  • Is there anything else I need to know?

    The course is a 36 week programme and is delivered over 2 days each week.
    This course is demanding and as part of the course it is recommended that you undertake a work placement in a salon for a minimum of 6 hours per week.

    Other key components include: Excellent attendance, a good record of punctuality and study, attendance at seminars, shows and competitions. You will be actively encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to enter internal and external hairdressing competitions including the prestigious World Skills and Wella exposure competitions.

    You will also be expected to provide a Level 3 hairdressing kit (no electrical equipment) a salon tunic and black covered shoes with a low heel. It is encouraged and recommended when possible you arrange your own models for assessment purposes. Your timetable will include: Monday day and evening, and Tuesday day.

    You could progress onto Higher Education: Level 4 teaching qualification and hairdressing or barbering short courses. You could seek employment as a stylist, salon manager, technical representative, or work on a cruise ship, become a salon manager, or own your own salon.

    Assessment


    All learners will complete an individual learning plan which will be discussed with their tutor throughout the course.

    Financial
