Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools Certificate Level 2

This course is an accredited course aimed at those who are new to supporting in schools or may have experience and wish to gain a qualification. The course will enable learners to develop the knowledge and skills needed when supporting teaching and learning in the school environment. You will attend weekly classes at Bolton college, as well as attend a work placement to obtain 100 hours of experience and complete tasks in setting. You will also be required to complete directed study at home.

This course incorporates mandatory units on: child and young person development, safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people.

You will also get the opportunity to study modules which are of particular interest to you or support your chosen career path.

GCSE Grade A*-C 9-4 or English Language or equivalent. However, if you do not already have this you may still be able to join the course but you must sit a diagnostic test to demonstrate you are working at Level Two.

You will need to secure a placement within a school (not a Nursery setting) which enables you to complete work experience (paid or voluntary) - this must be arranged and confirmed prior to the start of the course. You will need basic IT knowledge as all work is assessed online.

All units are internally assessed. Methods of assessment may include: witness statements, reflective accounts, displays, leaflets, working online.

In order to gain employment as a Teaching Assistant you must have a GCSE grade A*-C 9-4 English Language or equivalent. If you need to study a GCSE alongside this course we can help you with that.

You will need to arrange a work placement in a school or college and have this confirmed prior to the start of the course. You will also be required to attend the college before the start date to apply for a DBS.

Successful completion of the Level Two course will enable you to apply for the Level Three Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools.

Please note that this qualification also enables you to work as a qualified Teaching Assistant in a school setting (if you have a GCSE grade A*-C 9-4 English Language or equivalent).

Assessment

All learners will complete an individual learning plan which will be discussed with their tutor throughout the course.

Financial

Adult Learners

Adult learners (19+) must provide evidence of their existing qualification at enrolment. Learners may not be able to enrol if this information is not provided when requested. If you have lost any certificates please contact your school in the first instance.
