Supporting Teaching and Learning Diploma Level 3

This qualification provides learners with an in-depth understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in school and college environments. It covers all aspects of specialist support including planning, delivering and reviewing assessment strategies to support learning alongside the teacher; bilingual support; special needs support; and personal development and reflective practice. You will attend weekly classes at Bolton college, as well as attend a work placement to obtain 200 hours of experience and complete tasks in setting. You will also be required to complete directed study at home.

This qualification provides you with the knowledge, understanding and skills to work in a variety of unsupervised job roles that support children and young people’s learning in schools or colleges. Roles this qualification will prepare you for include:

• Teaching Assistant
• Learning Support Assistant
• Special Needs Assistant.

You must have achieved Level 2 Certificate Supporting Teaching and Learning. We will consider applications from those with substantial work experience in a school. All applicants must have English and Maths GCSE grades C/4 or above or be working towards these along side the course. You will need to be working in a school/college setting OR arrange and confirm a work placement prior to the start of the course.

This qualification is assessed internally. You will be required to complete assignment based assessments using Microsoft Word and submit this work on to our VLE. Your course tutor will show you how to do this. You will also be required to carry out various tasks in a school setting as part of your work placement experience. You will need to obtain Expert Witness Testimonies from the school teacher, complete reflective accounts and collate work product evidence to demonstrate your skills. You will also be assessed on obtaining 200 work placement hours. You will need to attend college each week, as well as complete directed study tasks.

As learners need to show competence in both skills and knowledge, you will need to be working or be on a practical placement during the taught programme of study in a learning environment (school or college) - this must be arranged and confirmed prior to the start of the course. At diploma level, you will need to obtain 200 hours work experience. You will need to source this placement yourself and have this arranged prior to the start date of the course. You will also need to attend college prior to the start of the course to complete a DBS form.

Learners achieving the Level 3 Diploma can progress onto the Level 4 Certificate for the Advanced Practitioner in Schools and Colleges, a foundation degree, or specialist roles within the workforce.

Assessment

All learners will complete an individual learning plan which will be discussed with their tutor throughout the course.

Financial

Adult learners (19+) must provide evidence of their existing qualification at enrolment. Learners may not be able to enrol if this information is not provided when requested. Studying at College
