    Our full-time study programmes are designed to
    maximise your career prospects and widen your options
    for further or higher study.

    This growth sector offers excellent career opportunities
    in electronics, mechanics, manufacturing and design
    engineering.

    The rewards include a job that is well-paid, diverse
    and engaging. It will also give you the opportunity to
    develop transferable skills which are in demand locally,
    nationally and worldwide.

    Courses are delivered by tutors with a wealth of
    specialist skills, based on years of industry experience
    and academic status. The curriculum is furthermore
    developed alongside employer needs.

    Work experience is also an integral part of our study
    programmes, enabling you to gain essential exposure to
    the world of work.
  • What you'll learn

    This fascinating and informative course has six (there
    are only 5 listed) mandatory units:
    • Engineering Project
    • Electrical and Electronic Principles
    • Communication for Engineering Technicians
    • Mechanical Principles and Applications
    • Health & Safety in the Engineering Workplace
    In addition, optional units including:
    • Properties and Applications of Engineering Materials
    • Electro, Pneumatic and Hydraulic Systems and
    Devices
    • Computer-aided Drafting
    • Welding Technology
    • Electrical Installation

    You will have the opportunity to complete work
    experience during the course. Many of our learners
    are offered a permanent position at the end of their
    placement, and around 15 of this year’s learners gained
    some kind of employment through exposure to the
    industry.

    If required for your chosen career or HE course, you may
    wish to study English & maths to Level 3.


    Elements of Study
    Your programme consists of the following elements:
    • Study of your chosen vocational subject (50% of your
    programme)
    • English and maths (continued until the achievement
    of GCSE grade 4 (C) or equivalent)
    • Employability skills (e.g. punctuality, attendance,
    communication and team work)
    • Work experience (giving you a taste of working life)
    • Tutorial & personal development (e.g. healthy living,
    volunteering and citizenship skills)

    We ask that you have either four GCSEs at grade 4
    (C) or above, including Maths, English and Science or
    Engineering BTEC Diploma Level 2
  • How will I be assessed?

    You will be continually assessed throughout the year;
    there will be no exams.

    Support
    The College will support you throughout your time here;
    you will receive personal support from both your tutor
    and your Learning & Development Mentor. Support is
    also available from our dedicated Student Services team
    for personal, financial and careers guidance.
    During their last inspection, Ofsted commended the
    College for its provision of “well targeted information,
    advice and careers guidance, which meets individual
    needs and enables learners to make informed choices
    about the next steps in their learning and career”.

    Enrichment
    We want to give you a positive experience at College
    and a rounded view of the industry you could one day be
    working in. So, during your time at College, you will have
    the opportunity to enjoy a range of activities, including:
    • Attending national motorsports events
    • Hearing and meeting with guest speakers from the
    industry
    • Opportunities to take part in regional skills
    competitions

    College in Greater Manchester for 16-18 achievement
    rates for higher level qualifications.

    Ofsted Grade 2 ‘Good’
    On our last inspection we were graded 2 for ‘Good’.
    Ofsted highlighted the fact that our learners develop
    good employability and personal skills and that a high
    proportion progress to Apprenticeships, employment or
    Higher Education.

  • Future opportunities

    After you have completed the course you could remain
    in College and progress on to an Engineering BTEC Level
    3 course.
    Alternatively, if you choose to look for paid work
    you could opt for an Engineering or Manufacturing
    Apprenticeship.

    Following further study you could work as:
    • An Electrical Engineer where you could earn up to
    £40,000 a year, depending on experience. Once
    Chartered, you could earn £45,000 a year or more
    • A Telecoms Engineer, earning between £16,000 and
    £30,000 a year
    • A Design and Development Engineer, earning
    between £21,000 and £55,000 a year, depending on
    experience
