  • Overview of the course

    You will gain specialist knowledge, skills and understanding relating to working in the police service.

    You will gain a broad understanding of policing, covering disciplines such as leadership skills, physical fitness, equality and diversity and inclusion, which can then be applied to current or future employment. The content has been developed with employers, subject experts and tutors to ensure that it’s relevant to the real world and meets the need of employers.

    On completion you will have the option of progressing to further or higher study, or be in a position to gain employment.

    Engaging with employers is also an integral part of this programme – we’ll seek to ensure that you have opportunities to gain real-world experience of your chosen sector.

    • Prepare for a career in the police service
    • Develop aspects of physical fitness for entry to the police service
    • Values and standards in the police service
    • Collaboration between the emergency services
    • Understanding discipline in the police service
    • UK legal systems and the police service
    • Crime scene investigation
    • Volunteering in the police service
    • Neighbourhood policing
    • Dealing with emergency incidents

    Elements of study

    Your programme consists of the following elements:
    • Study of your chosen vocational subject - 50% of your programme
    • Employability skills, such as punctuality, attendance, communication and team work
    • Work experience or an Industry Placement, giving you a taste of working life
