Bolton College’s The Signing Choir entertained staff and students again today, with amazing signed renditions of songs from ‘The Sound of Music’ and ‘The Lion King’.
Amongst a medley of hits, the choir signed to Take That’s ‘Rule the World’, the Lion King’s ‘I Just Can’t Wait to Be King’, and Frozen’s ‘Let it Go’. At one point, the College’s Principal Bill Webster enthusiastically joined in with the proceedings, much to the delight of the audience.
The Sing & Sign choir is comprised of D/deaf learners, as well as hearing staff and students who are learning to sign.
Bolton College seizes every opportunity to promote equality and diversity amongst its students, and this event was one of many that contribute to the College’s inclusive environment.
Rachael Whittaker, who conducted the choir and is an Inclusion Coordinator at the College, said ‘As always, the choir gave a fantastic performance and the support and encouragement they received was brilliant. Our choir consists of a real cross-section of students and staff , and when they perform together, they really are show-stopping’.
The College is looking to recruit new student and staff volunteers to develop British Sign Language skills and in turn, support the College’s D/deaf learners. They are also looking for as many staff and learners as possible to join the choir.
