The College, part of the University of Bolton Group, holds an annual competition for its catering students where learners create a themed dessert; the winning dish is then replicated for over 200 guests at the Mayor’s charity ball, taking place next month.
Percivals, one of the North West’s leading caterers, will be serving up a three-course meal during the event, so director Claire Didlock supported with judging.
The theme of the ball is ‘Night at the Oscars’ and the College’s Level 3 students served up a sumptuous selection of show-stopping desserts.
First up were Daniel Sutton and Jade Gallagher, who created ‘Red Carpet Delight,’ a red velvet cake served with ice cream and raspberry coulis.
Next, ‘Tropical Paradise’, a coconut custard tart with roasted pineapple, made by Yasin Ghanchi and Anthoneil Shakes.
Finally, the turn of Mackenzie Kay, Abbie Entwistle and Harrison Green, who served up ‘The Hollywood Dream’, a seven-layered wild berry cheesecake.
After some difficult decision making, Daniel and Jade’s ‘Red Carpet Delight’ was crowned winner.
Daniel and Jade said: “We’re so pleased to have won and it’s exciting to know that our dessert will be served to so many guests.”
The Mayor said: “All of the desserts tasted brilliant so this was a very hard competition to judge.
“After discussing with Carol, I decided to go for Red Carpet Delight – as well as looking and tasting great, it’s ideal for a large event.”
Bill Webster, Principal of Bolton College, added: “Our students presented their desserts with professionalism and skill and I’m very impressed with what our chefs achieved.
“Each year, we look forward to supporting the Mayor’s Charity Ball and the opportunity of showcasing the talent of our wonderful students.”
