Only five months after being rated ‘good’ by Ofsted, Bolton College is celebrating again. This time, it’s been named the number one College in Greater Manchester for overall achievement rates of young people aged 16-18.

The Department for Education’s annual achievement rate tables for 2015-2016 show that Bolton College topped the table for the 10 general Further Education and Tertiary Colleges within Greater Manchester.

Across its 16-18 provision, Bolton College achieved an overall pass rate of 91.5%. Rates for adults were equally impressive too, with nearly 94% of learners passing their course.

The College’s Apprenticeship programme was also another strong area; the College was first for Children and Young People’s Workforce and first for Intermediate Hairdressing, whilst its Intermediate Construction programme was placed second.

The College delivers over 50 Apprenticeship programmes across 20 industry areas and has a long history of success. Bolton College apprentices have been commended at the Bolton and Bury Business Awards, the National Apprenticeship Awards and also sector specific ceremonies, such as the Property & Construction Awards. The Association of Colleges has also recognised the College’s outstanding programme, with one apprentice being Highly Commended at a celebratory event at the Houses of Parliament.

Bill Webster, Principal of Bolton College, said, “Like our Ofsted result, the achievement rates of our young learners prove that Bolton College continues to move in the right direction. The College delivers over 135 study programmes and Apprenticeships across 20 industry areas and our tutors and students work incredibly hard, so I’m delighted that the results reflect this. It’s been a great year for Bolton College and I’m sure next year will be even better.”
